Atal Setu bridge -“Cracks on Approach Road of Mumbai’s MTHL Bridge Spark Corruption Allegations”

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), India’s longest sea bridge inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi five months ago, is under scrutiny due to cracks appearing on its tar road exit towards Ulwe in Navi Mumbai.

The Congress party has accused the government of corruption over these cracks. They argue that the bridge, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, should not be marred by such issues. Congress leader Patole criticized the government, saying they are risking people’s lives due to alleged corruption. He called for action against what he described as a corrupt administration.

The Maharashtra government responded, clarifying that the cracks were found on the approach road, not on the main bridge structure itself. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), responsible for the bridge’s construction, supported this clarification.

This project costed around Rs 17,840 crore and aims to improve connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Despite the criticism and accusations, the MMRDA assured that the main part of the bridge remains unaffected by the reported cracks.
