Hemant Soren Set to Return as Jharkhand Chief Minister

Hemant Soren, a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and former Chief Minister, was elected as the leader of the ruling alliance of parties called the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc on July 3. Later that day, he met with the Governor to claim the opportunity to form the government in the state. This means he is set to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the 13th time.

Earlier this year, Mr. Soren had resigned from the Chief Minister’s post after being sent to jail in connection with a land scam case. His party and allies decided to choose him again as their leader. Champai Soren, the outgoing Chief Minister, voluntarily resigned from his position and handed his resignation to Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan. Soon after, Hemant Soren and leaders from his alliance met with the Governor, who arrived in Ranchi that evening.

It is expected that Hemant Soren will be invited by the Governor to take the oath of office as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on July 4th.
