Che’ Guevara

Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara was born on June 14, 1928. Even though he passed away 50 years ago, he’s still a big deal to many people. He’s seen as a hero of revolutions all over the world.

You might not know who he is, but you’ve probably seen his famous picture called Guerrillero Heroico. It was taken by a Cuban photographer named Alberto Korda on March 5, 1960, during a funeral in Havana. In the picture, Che looks serious, staring into the distance.Nowadays, you can find this picture on all sorts of stuff you can buy. It’s become a symbol of standing up against powerful people, even though Che himself wouldn’t have liked how it’s used to sell things.

Che Guevara was from Argentina and believed in Marxist ideas. He played a big part in the Cuban Revolution, leading a group of fighters who helped overthrow a leader supported by the United States, named Fulgencio Batista, in 1959.

Che Guevara is an anti-capitalist icon. But his image today makes capitalists more money than they can imagine.
