Three people were killed and 10 others were injured in a shooting at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas. The incident happened when a man named Travis Eugene Posey, aged 44, opened fire inside the Mad Butcher store. Among the wounded were two police officers who responded to the scene. The shooter was also injured during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement and has been taken into custody.

Authorities have identified Posey as the suspect and plan to charge him with three counts of capital murder, with more charges likely. The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. local time, prompting immediate response from law enforcement to secure the area and neutralize the threat.

While the injuries to the officers and Posey are not life-threatening, the conditions of the civilian victims vary from non-life-threatening to very critical. The Arkansas State Police assured the public that the situation is under control and there are no ongoing threats to the community.

This tragic event adds to a troubling trend of mass shootings across the United States in 2024, with over 230 incidents recorded so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
