India vs Qatar – India lose with 2-1 to Qatar

The Indian men’s football team faced a challenging defeat in their final Group A match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against the  reigning Asian champions, Qatar. Despite a valiant effort, India succumbed to a 2-1 loss, marking the end of their journey in the second round.

Lallianzuala Chhangte ignited hope for India with a stellar strike in the 37th minute, sending waves of excitement through fans. However, Qatar, ranked 34th globally, displayed their skills with a remarkable comeback in the second half. Yousef Aymen leveled the score in the 73rd minute, followed by Ahmed Al-Rawi’s decisive goal in the 85th minute, sealing victory for the team.

Throughout the match, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, leading the team as captain, showcased his skill with crucial saves, but Qatar’s relentless attacks proved challenging to fend off. Despite promising opportunities, India couldn’t capitalize fully, with Manvir Singh and Lallianzuala Chhangte missing chances to extend their lead.

The second half saw Qatar intensify their efforts, ultimately overpowering India’s defense. Although Igor Stimac squad demonstrated resilience, with Jay Gupta and Liston Colaco threatening Qatar’s defense, the hosts’ clinical finish in the dying moments secured their triumph.

While India’s journey in the qualifiers concludes with this defeat, their spirited performance against formidable opponents reflects their determination and progress on the international stage.
