The Miami Heat’s general manager, Adam Simon, expressed great excitement after selecting a player he described as a “3-and-D center” with the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Kel’el Ware, from Indiana basketball is  their choice. Ware, who was present at the Barclays Center, transferred to IU after his freshman year at Oregon.

Simon highlighted Ware’s versatility when talking to reporters later that night. “Finding a 7-footer who can play outside on offense and also defend well, especially blocking shots and guarding the post, is not easy. Simon said  that is what made Ware very appealing to us.

When Ware’s name was announced on draft night, he became emotional and cried withh tears of joy. He was surrounded by his family and IU coach Mike Woodson.

Ware journey to this moment had been filled with challenges, starting with a tough beginning as a highly rated recruit at Oregon. Despite playing in all 35 games, he faced criticism from his coach Dana Altman, who publicly questioned his effort multiple times.
