Matija Sarkic dies at 26, says Millwall

Matija Sarkic dies at 26, says Millwall :

Matija Sarkic, the Montenegro goalkeeper who recently played for Millwall, a football club in London, has passed away at the age of 26. Millwall announced his death on June 15th, without providing further details.

Sarkic’s last game for Montenegro was on June 5th, where they lost 2-0 to Belgium. He had appeared nine times internationally, according to the Montenegro soccer federation.

Millwall expressed their condolences, saying, “Everyone at the club sends their love and condolences to Matija’s family and friends at this immensely sad time.” They also requested privacy for his family and stated they would not comment further.

Sarkic joined Millwall in August 2023, playing 33 matches for the club. Previously, he had been part of Anderlecht’s youth academy in Belgium and Aston Villa’s academy in England. After five years at Villa, he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, where he played before joining Millwall. He also had loan spells at Birmingham and Stoke during his career.
