Saudi Arabia :Over 1,300 Deaths in Hajj Tragedy due to extreme heat waves :

Over 1,300 Muslim pilgrims died during this month’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, where temperatures reached above 50 degrees Celsius. Many of these deaths were caused by extreme heat, which could have been prevented. This highlights the urgent need for better protection against heat, especially for those most vulnerable like older people and people with disabilities.

Reports indicate that unregistered pilgrims were denied access to essential facilities such as air-conditioned tents, cooling centers, transportation, and water stations. The high cost of official Hajj permits is a major reason why some pilgrims travel without proper registration, often using personal visit visas instead. Authorities have pointed out that 83 percent of those who died did not have permits, meaning they had to endure long distances and prolonged exposure to the sun without adequate shelter.
